Many golf clubs compete in golf leagues. These are highly competitive & the teams contain excellent players, often of County standard or higher.
Invariably, it is the Clubs' Captains who are responsible for running these teams leading to a very busy time between April & August.
Hard work it may be but very enjoyable for the Captains whose teams win something - especially the League title.
Another major advantage is that, as a result of the matches & other League events, the Captains get to know each very well & many friendships are created.
The Newcastle & District League is one the oldest & most competitive in the UK. Established in 1951, the League has 16 teams involving often over 200 players during the course of the season.
